FIRST LANGUAGE ENGLISH

COURSE DESCRIPTION
The Cambridge Upper Secondary English promotes an enquiry-based approach to learning to develop learners’ confidence, creativity and intellectual engagement. It is designed for learners who have English as a first language or near-native standard and can be used in any cultural context. Cambridge IGCSE First Language English offers candidates the opportunity to respond with understanding to a rich array of reading texts during the course as a whole. Candidates use these texts to inform and inspire their own writing, and write in a range of text types for different purposes and audiences.
It provides a comprehensive set of progressive learning objectives for English. The learning objectives detail what a learner should know, understand and be able to do in each year of lower secondary education. The Cambridge Lower Secondary English Curriculum Framework builds on the Lower Secondary curriculum framework.
Cambridge IGCSE First Language English allows learners to:
- develop the ability to communicate clearly, accurately and effectively when speaking and writing
- learn how to use a wide range of vocabulary, and the correct grammar, spelling and punctuation
- develop a personal style and an awareness of the audience being addressed
